once upon a time there was a Guy, and a Girl, and they made some music. along the way, they fell in love.



this movie is a gem. filled with both sweet and awkward moments, with the characters unsure sometimes of how to proceed or how their love story will end, once is beautiful, genuine, and honest. the movie doubles as a musical showcase for the talents of glen hansard and marketa irglova, who played the leads as well as wrote and performed all of the heartfelt music in the film (my favorite is "when your mind's made up" - scroll down to listen).

the only thing this movie is missing is some ninjas karate-chopping some bad guys. and some cupcakes. not a single cupcake in this movie.

spoiler alert - if you've seen once and wondered what she said in czech while they were on the hill, it's "miluju tebe".
